Professor Zhu Yan and Associate Professor Chen Xuan went to Japan to attend the 4th East Asian German-speaking Jurist Conference

From March 25th to 26th, Professor Zhu Yan and Associate Professor Chen Xuan participated in the 4th East Asian German-speaking Jurist Conference held in Kyoto, Japan. The conference is held by Ritsumeikan University, and sponsored by Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, and Robert Bosch Stiftung. More than 60 scholars from mainland China and Taiwan, Germany, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan took part in the conference, which is themed with “the protection for fundamental rights in law practice and legal dogmatics”.Grundrechtsschutz in der Rechtspraxis und –dogmatik.

Professor Zhu Yan participated in the discussion on civil law, and associate professor Chen Xuan gave a speech “Justifiable defense and proportion principle—view from Chinese criminal law law practice and legal dogmatics” (Notwehr und Verhältnismäßigkeitsgrundsatz - Aspekte aus der chinesischen Strafrechtsdogmatik und -praxis).
East Asian German-speaking Jurist Conference is a communication platform for scholars in East Asia who have the background of German law research. It is held every two years, and uses German as working language. The previous third one was held in Beijing in September 2015 by RUC law school. The conference is aimed to promote communication among East Asian law scholars to discuss new academic issues. It can not only do benefit to German and East Asian law research but establish communication system for scholars who have German law research background. The participation of Zhu Yan and Chen Xuan improved communication between mainland and other East Asian scholars.
